The scary future of robotics
Robotics is one of the fields where we see a lot of progress because of the rapid developments of technology. Remember the scary robot Big Dog from Boston Dynamics in the year 2008. Well that was scary? Meet Spot.
Spot is a four-legged robot designed for indoor and outdoor operation. It is electrically powered and hydraulically actuated. Spot has sensor head that helps it navigate and negotiate rough terrain. Spot weighs about 160 lbs. Spot is really amazing just like Bog Dog already was in 2005. The Google-owned company Boston Dynamics shows hows Spot ois able to move through rough terrain. It is gallivanting with a weird hop through and office. It ‘walks’ up a concrete stairs and on rocky hills. All this is happening with all the easy of a human being. Spot keeps it’s balance after being kicked by a human. It is like we said amazing and really scary to see how far technology already is. Combine this with weapons and make it fully autonomous and you have a hell of a scary robot!

Seeing Boston Dynamics spot at work you will have to ask yourself what the future work of this robot will be. Previous Boston Dynamics quadrupeds were developed to create robotic pack mules which were able to assist soldiers with their gear in rough country. Image soldiers with these intelligent robots carrying all the supplies they need.
Of course that this makes sense for a machine the size of a mechanical mule. But other possible futures for Spot are for example a robot guard or scout. For now we do not know but again the tech world shows us what they are already capable of. And remember you will not see everything so they are even further in the development then you might think. Interesting the field of trend watching and futuring because many of the biggest and most disruptive innovations are from the military. So we will keep an eye on Spot. Like we already did from the first introduction of Big Dog.
