The ambulance drone, future reality?
We already know the Deficopter which was tested iin Germany. The Deficopter was a smart drone which is able to help people in emergency cases. Think of a drone helping people with a heart attach. Now in the Netherlands TU Delf student Alec Momont developed a concept called the Ambulance drone. Is the future of emergency care to drones?
Graduation student Alec Momont created a great concept which goes even further then the Deficopter which was tested in Germany. The Ambulance drone could become the future of emergency care. This is how Alec describes his project on his own website.
With the Ambulance Drone, it is possible to deliver defibrillation to any patient in a 12 km2 area within 1 minute. At that speed, survival rates can be as high as 80%. Secondly, the incorporation of a two-way, video supported, communication channel in the drone between 112 operators and the first responders will improve first care. Successful AED usage by lay-persons is currently at 20%. With personalized instructions and communication on the Ambulance Drone, this can be increased to 90%. In short, the Ambulance Drone helps to save lives by extending existing emergency infrastructure with a network of fast and compact UAVs capable of bringing emergency supplies and establishing communication, anywhere.
The Ambulance Drone is the result of my Master Graduation thesis research project. It aims to save lives through the delivery of emergency supplies within the first minute after an accident. On the 28th of October I be presenting this project and graduate from the TU Delft, after which I will look for funding to continue development of this project. (text via website Alec Momont)
A great example of someone trying to use the advance of technology to create and disrupt ‘normal’ ways of working.
