Drones are slowly but surely becoming an every aspect of our lives. Amazon wants to use them for delivery services. We see the police and military use them more than ever. But also in agriculture, the film industry, security, housing and at festivals drones are a normal thing. Drones even can walk your dog! One thing is sure, they are on the rise.
Drones aren’t new. They are here already for years. But technology is now accelerating and this has also it’s effect on the development and possibilities of drones. Today’s drones are full of high tech. Drones have state of the art GPS and it ‘knows’ its velocity, orientation and acceleration. Drones are packed with intelligent sensors, camera’s, computers and wireless communication devices. They even have weapons.
We cannot compare today’s drones with the ones a few years ago. But the same is true for the future of drones. And those will be amazing. They can be very small and intelligent to big and fast.
We see the usage of drones already in various industries. News, agriculture, energy, scientific research, law enforcement, entertainment, construction etcetera. So when we combine the adoption of drones nowadays with the technological progress the future is amazing. Drones will get a mind of their own. They can even becomes invisible for the human eye. The drone is here to stay but there are also a lot of challenges.
What about safety and privacy? When drones are becoming so highly sophisticated and intelligent what will the do with the data they are able to collect from us? Technology is already raising many ethical questions and drones are just one of all those future challenges of which we already have to think. Beside drones think about the consequences of DNA sequencing, smart pills, big and predictive data etcetera. This era will give us a lot to think about when it comes to the effects of new technology. But like we said drones are here to stay and some near future applications of drones are pollination, personal safety, ubiquitous surveillance, transport and photography.
