The future of crime
The technology industry creates beautiful and visionary images and videos of our technology driven future. But of course there is also a down site. Future crimes gives us a scary insight into this possible future. A future which is closer than you might think.
Marc Goodman is a leading authority on global security. He wrote the book Future Crimes. In this book Marc describes a world of crime where technology is a big driver. A horror scenario for many of the institutions which are responsible for keeping our society safe. Marc Goodman takes readers of his book deep into the digital underground. A world where digital is the source for new ways of doing crime. He exposes the alarming and frightening ways criminals, corporations, and countries are using new and emerging technologies against you and your loved ones. Emerging technologies which promise us a better way of living but also have a counter development. The development that criminals have new and frightening new ways of attacking you or stealing, threatening you. A future world in which everyone who, and everything which is connected has become vulnerable.

“OMG, this is a wakeup call. The outlaws are running faster than the architects. Use this book to shake up the companies you buy from, the device makers, telecom carriers, and governments at all levels. Demand that they pay attention to the realities of our new world as outlined within this thorough and deep book. Marc Goodman will startle you with the ingenuity of the bad guys. I’m a technological optimist. Now I am an eyes-wide-open optimist.” (Kevin Kelly, co-founder of Wired Magazine and best-selling author of What Technology Wants)
At Extend Limits we are aware of the rise of new dangers because of technology. For this we do also a lot of session within police- and security offices within Europe. The every growing utopian images we see and hear from many technology companies could be dangerous. The are misleading for many people - consumers of technology. Not enough people are aware of the hidden dangers of technology. We hear a lot nowadays about the dark side of technology. Think about the Sony hack, the hack of the twitter account of the Pope or ISIS creating it’s own social network. But it goes further. What about the smart sensors which give us a lot of extra comfort in our house but also means that our house are connected and so they are hackable. Technology even merges with our human flesh. Think about pacemakers of sensors in medicine. All seems like a far fetched future but it is becoming a reality today.
We must rethink our safety and in a ever growing connected world new criminals will find new ways of doing harm. We need to address future crimes by addressing new technological developments and act on it. We shouldn’t wait before it happens because we are already in the stage where future crimes are happening and the institutions which have to protect us are behind.
“The hacks and heists detailed in Future Crimes are the stuff of thrillers, but unfortunately, the world of cyber crime is all too real. There could be no more sure-footed or knowledgeable companion than Marc Goodman on this guided tour of the underworld of the Internet. Everyone—and the business world especially—should heed his advice.” (Daniel H. Pink, New York Times best-selling author of Drive and To Sell is Human)
