Transparant trucks for road safety

Transparant trucks for road safety

We still have to wait for the autonomous trucks and cars before our roads will become much safer. Until the we will have to find other solutions to make our roads safer.

Remember Russian design house Art Lebedev  back in 2009. They introduced a road concept to make the streets safer. They called it Transparantius concept. The idea was simple and also brilliant. Use camera’s to show on the back of trucks what is happening in front of the truck. This all by using screens. This idea never came to realization. But maybe Samsung can make a difference. They have now exactly the same idea. For the realization Samsung makes use of its abundance outdoor displays. With these screens Samsung creates a video wall of mostly four displays at the rear of the truck. On these screens the video, captured by a wireless camera at the front of the truck, is transmitted. With this Samsung has created see-through trucking.

Samsung says it is working to obtain regulatory approval for the deployment of its so-called Safety Truck. Will this idea be feasible for the near future. Looking at the investment you have to conclude that it probably is not.  Although the camera’s are cheap, the screens are expensive. Especially it doesn’t  lead to direct financial benefit. What we love at Extend Limits is the idea and the technical capability to make this possible and for example find a solution for the sun reflection on the screens.

If the see through truck isn’t a real option for the near future what will be? We think that the internet of things and also internet of vehicles will be a more feasible option. Vehicle-to-Vehicle communication is making progress and will be in the near future have big impact on safety.
