Je smartphone heeft ervoor gezorgd dat je onbegrensde toegang hebt tot de virtuele wereld en dat kennis en kunde steeds beter naar je persoonlijk worden ontsloten. Maar je smartphone kan nu niet heel veel met echt fysieke producten. SCiO wil daar verandering in brengen.

Stel je voor dat je een sensor hebt die ieder product in de fysieke wereld kan scannen en analyseren. Stel je voor dat je dandirect via je smartphone informatie krijgt over dat fysieke product. SCiO wil die dienst en technologie gaan leveren. Of zoals men of hun kickstarter pagina aangeeft: Meet SCiO. It is the world's first affordable molecular sensor that fits in the palm of your hand. SCiO is a tiny spectrometer and allows you to get instant relevant information about the chemical make-up of just about anything around you, sent directly to your smartphone.

SCiO heeft (begrijpelijk) haar financiele doelen via Kickstarter al gehaald. Dat betekent dat ze dus snel verder kunnen ontwikkelen om zo de SCiO nog dit jaar(?) beschikbaar te stellen. Volgens moet het systeem uiteindelijk minimaal de volgende informatie kunnen leveren (tekst via kickstarter):
