Unplug, the counter digital movement
We see the rise of movements against our far stretched dependence of technology. This is a logical movement because every trend has a counter trend.
We see a clear counter movement against technology and social media. After a period we all got hooked on technology we are now become aware of the ‘negative’ side effects of technology. Think about privacy, transparency and information overload. It are all normal signs of a developments which has big impact in society. Technology has a fundamental impact.
Are these movements against our technological addiction. Signs of a stop in technological development. Or signs of a stop in our acceptance towards technology? No they are not. Like we said every trend has a counter trend. And the counter trend of our digitized world is anti digital. It is all a sign that we become more aware of the positive and negative sides of technology and we are becoming more mature in the usage of technology. You could even say that this development will result in a society which is better in using technology in it’s own advantage.
But of course there is still a long way to go. And for the upcoming years we will see a lot of problems because of technology. Technology solves a lot of problems but also creates a lot of problems. One thing is for sure: our behavior and current systems will change because of technology. Our biggest challenge isn’t technology but to use technology to finally put humans and the planet at the centre and not companies and profits.
When we look at communication new media has to support the individual and put the individual at the centre. Not companies and their marketing, advertisements and profits. That has to be a result of humanized contact, marketing and business.
