Soofa, solar powered smart city bench

In the U-S state of Massachusetts, a futuristic bench has been built which uses solar power to charge mobile phones in public places.

Soofa is how the smart bench is called. It is A (solar-powered) hub for smart, social and sustainable spaces. Soofas create an infrastructure for smart spaces tailored to the mobile generation.

The scientists behind the so-called Soofa or smart bench, say the new device is the bench of the future, and will likely be scattered around cities soon. A dozen of the benches, which can also store user data, have been installed around the city of Boston this summer as part of a pilot program. The makers of the bench are all students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Lab. They say their goal is to provide smart, sustainable and social places for people all over the world to power up.

Soofa is just the beginning of a big trend which brings a smarter and more adaptable city surroundings. The future of our city is technology driven. Technologies which will be embedded in every surrounding in which we act as a human being.
