Scenario: education becomes obsolete?
We see a lot of transitions and shifts within every industry. Technology and a changing consumer are many times the ones who ‘fuel’ these shifts. What could happen to our education systems? Systems which become under pressure because of new technologies and start-ups.
What will the future be off our universities? We see the rise of online initiatives which are low cost and available for everyone. Just think about examples like University of the People, EdX, and Kahn Academy. We even see the best universities working together with these new initiatives. They provide materials and their best professors are giving lectures online.
Is this the end of the university as we know it? According to the scenario in the embedded video below, it is! The video is in the same style of the Epic 2015 movie but it shows the end of the educational system as we know it. The video provides it’s scenario buy extrapolating todays trends and developments to the future. This is of course not the only and best way to think about the future. I do not believe that our educational system will become absolete but it will be reset and change fundamentally. It will become more centralized around the student. More individualized.
