Zweedse operator Telenor biedt onbeperkt muziek aan op mobiel tegen wekelijkse bijdrage

Sweden is the first country where consumers can download music to their mobiles unlimited. This all for a weekly fee of 1,99 pounds or 2,99 euros. The service is develloped by the British Omnifone and is named MusicStation (see introduction movie). MusicStation brings the future of unlimited access of music to any device within reach. It is also a big competitor of the upcoming Apple Iphone which allows users to sync with Itunes. The service started in Sweden but there are big plans to expand to the UK,France and Germany. Omnifone has signed deals with 30 other mobile phone firms across Europe, Africa and Asia. So it must be big! To have a large amount of music in the library Omnifone has deals with big record companies like Universal, Sony BMG, EMI and Warner. It is already possible to listen to music on mobiles and download tracks but these tend to be confined to particular operators or handsets. MusicStation works across operators and 75% of existing handsets. Of course there is a social component in this 2.0 world. Users of MusicStation are able to share tracks and playlists with other MusicStation subscribers via the mobile network. This initiative shows that the time for the cd-shops is very limited. I guess that in 3 years most music store are dissappeared from our streets. What do you think?Source: BBC
