Some new TV innovations
New television innovations are emerging every day. Let's have a look at some of them.
Recently, September 2006, the Dutch electronics company Philips introduced a LCD TV that shows programmes in 3D. The first to apply this capability is Holland Casino. Visitors of the casino are welcomed with an introduction of the casino in 3D. In 2006 at the eDay 2006 conference a Dutch bank, the Rabobank, showed off the 3D television with a advertisement. It drew the attention of a large number of visitors, not because of the Rabobank, but the 3D television itself!
Recently, on Sneuphok a Dutch weblog, I saw the introduction of a new TV concept by Sharp, the Two-Way TV. This new television can show two different programmes simultaneously, full screen...just have a look at the You Tube clip.
In March 2005, Tom Coates of the weblog Plastic Bag, shared his thoughts on a new TV concept, the Social Software for the Set-top box. A concept where Instant messaging meets the TV. You can use your buddy-list to invite friends to watch a TV-show together...virtually that is. But you can also see what your friends see as popular shows ... TV as a social medium.
But where Tom stops, Joost, com begins. The Dutch company promises a incredible concept! Show TV via the Internet, just as TV was meant to be. Watch shows, chat with friends, see the TV-guide, pauze the show, time-shifting, and on and on...Just look at the screen shots, soon we will be able to try it. It really looks promising, an implementation of Tom Coates concept!
