The future of mobile communication

MOCOM2020 is an open think tank about mobile media worldwide. Their goal is to develop a visualized vision of the future of mobile media in the year 2020. To start the discussion the already placed a clip on YouTube.

The way we communicate will change radically for the upcomunig 10 to 15 years. That is my opinion. The biggest question is of course what will change and when? In the near future we will see a world where we will communicate on a more human way. This means that we will communicate more on a more natural way like speech, gestures and vision. Devices will become more smarter and will really understand us. And we humans will be seamlessly connected with the virtual word. Information will be rich and personal and knowledge will become a commodity.

Of course we can discuss future visions for long but first we have to imagine it before we can talk about it. This is also what the guys behind MOCOM 2020 must have thought. The MOCOM 2020 project is created and managed by simyo and Ahead of Time. Monty Metzger, Founder of Ahead of Time, is leading the project.

To start the discussion about the future of mobile communication MOCOM lready made a inspirational clip. Some of the predictions they made are:

  • 2012: Machine to machine communication is a fact and ubiquitous computing will result in the rise of 'The internet of things'.

  • 2013: Everyone has a 50 Mb (mobile) connection with the internet. This results in the so called Smart Cloud.

  • 2015: Mobile payments are on the rise. Mobile devices are adaptable to our lifestyle and surroundings. Nanotechnology is the engine behind these developments. It is the starting point of the 'physical personal device'.

  • 2017: The climax of the mobile economy! The market of mobile media is bigger then the market of all remaining media together. We are also able to communicate in every language because of the arrival of 'instant translation'.

  • 2019: Privacy, access to information and control are big issues. It is the year of 'cybersecurity'.

  • 2020: In the year 2020 mobile communication is controversial, interactive and unlimited.

The vision in this clip is much alike our book about the year 2020. Some of the predictions like the rise of the internet of things in 2012 is a bit ambitious I think. What do you think about this vision?
