The future: a plentitude economy

The plentitude economy, a world where the Do-it-yourself drives a new world. Is this the future of our society. A society where we become less dependent of large corporations.

The video about the plentitude economy start with a message from the beginning of the seventies where some scientist warn the world about our addiction to consumption and the every growing stress on the natural environment. Well that prediction was quite right. The first 10 years of this new century are for many people confronting. We experience a lot of different crises. But we have to reset the way we think about today’s crisis. We have to see them as a wake up call and embrace them to power necessary change. Humanity came a long way and we have see a lot of progress but now we have to change our view on progress and the systems we have created which are so dependent on solely consumption and economic growth. All this powered by fossil fuels which have a very negative impact on our planet.

According to Juliet Schor the solution of today’s and future crises is not to focus more on production and consumption. This is what most governments and companies still do and hope works. But this era of limitless growth without thinking about our planet are over. We have to experiment with new economic and social models. Schor’s solution is the so called Plentitude economy. The very essence of this model is that we will change the way we use our available time. It means that people will not work full time anymore so there is time to do other things instead of being dependent of big companies which help us consume things we could also do and create ourselves. The Plentitude economy fully focusses on the Do-it-yourself trend.New technologies are making this vision become more realistic and available.
