Tech changes the world of blind people
Can blind people ever drive cars? Or watch television? Or become a top photographer? The answer to alle these questions is probably yes, because of technology. A beatutiful series of TED-videos to see the development of technology for the blind.
We use technology to make things faster or make our live easier. The following series of TED videos shows that we have found solutions for many bigger and smaller problems of our live. Many daily obstacles that visually impaired people encounter will disappear within a few years. In a few years blind people can for example drive cars: self-driving cars bring them everywhere they want. Watching television may also be possible due to implanted chips that are connected to the brain. In the videos below you can also see how technology could let you read, or learn to photograph professionally. All the videos contain beautiful and touching stories.
Limitless?
The ultimate form to use technology is ‘just’ replace defective body parts or repair them by technology. We do it to our heart, so why not do it to our eyes? On Extend Limits you could read about the Orcam, helping the blind to see. Incredible developments, but I wonder sometimes if we can handle imperfections. Every major and minor derogation must be put right. Babies are already adjusted in the womb, before birth. Not only on hair color, but also on intelligence or athletic ability, if we are not careful. Technology can be great, but does that mean that we can apply this limitless?
People with visual impairments will not matter. They can shoot photo’s, drive a car, read a book or watch television. Technology can still be beautiful.
