Social media on your mobile phone
Social media is well known on the Internet. But now it also finds it's way to your mobile phone.
Web 2.0 will soon find her way towards your mobile. Of course this is for network operators a big opportunity. But still there are a lot of barriers to overcome. for example:
- The success of web 2.0 is also because the services are mainly for free. This will be a problem for mobile web 2.0. What will be the business case behind this?
- Most content on web 2.0 is user generated. This has to made available for the mobile phone which means it has to be transformed for the use on mobiles. This already takes place but still there is a lot to be done.
- And of course the screens on the devices are small. Smaller than a PC. Will consumers use this in the future to access web 2.0 services on their mobile device?
There are already a lot of initiatives which show us the way towards web 2.0 onto your mobile. For example Pitch Mobi (film), Clerkle, Mabber, Plazes, Widsets, Dodgeball and think about Nokia which wants to show YouTube clips on the new mobile devices with Youtube Mobile site.
The deal will allow users to view YouTube content via a Web browser on Nokia handsets through the new YouTube Mobile site, which is set to be launched soon
Beside the barriers to overcome many predict 2007 as the year where social networking becomes mobile.
More info: CNN, Red HerringPeople here are claiming that with the latest phones, faster 3G networks and a more user-friendly and cheaper approach by network operators, 2007 will be the year when social networking goes mobile
