Nokia works on mobile Augmented Reality (AR)
I found an interesting research project from Nokia. It's the Mobile Augmented Reality Applications (MARA) project, which explores utilizing camera equipped mobile devices as platforms for sensor-based, video see-through mobile augmented reality.
The Nokia MARA project also investigates new applications enabled by MARA, and paradigms motivated by restrictions of mobile devices. MARA uses an accelerometer (for orientation), a compass (for direction), and GPS (for location) to add information to images on the screen of a mobile device. In the future the applications recognize objects by conneting to a database which includes all kind of information of a object. This application makes it so much easier to find information about a object in the physical world. Imagine this: you see a restaurant, point your mobile Nokia phone to it and you see all the information you want like menu, customer reviews etc. More information: MARA Nokia
