IBM Innovation Center

In this interview we see Dennis Bly, manager at the IBM Austin Innovation Center. Interesting to hear how IBM manages innovation and gives meaning to their strategy "Building a Smarter Planet".

IBM has 42 innovation centers (IIC's) in 30 countries. Those IIC's help partners and customers to use IBM's innovations. The main functions of those IIC's are:

  • Build
  • Market
  • Deliver

The meaning is to deliver a one stop shop for those functions. In Austin there are 6000 employees to realise te innovation on, for example, Cloud Computing or work on IBM's strategy to build a smarter planet.

In Austin you can also find the "solutions innovation lab". In this lab the components are all put together to test the end result.

The solutions experience lab shows end to end solutions come into reality and how they will delivered in a real live environment

Dennis also explains how the Virtual Innovation Center (VIC) works.

"Building a smarter planet" means a

  • more integrated
  • more interconnected
  • more intelligent
  • and more instrumental world

In tomorrow's posting I'll get into more detail on this item...
