Gum recycling
By now, everyone has heard about producing goods based on the cradle-to-cradle principle, made popular by the book from William McDonough and Michael Braungart. A product should be completely reusable when the lifecycle ends. Examples of these products are the Nike Considered Boots, made from reused shoes. I think the Gumnetic Bin is an example with a hilarious touch. Made partly of old chewing gum, it's a bin that collects chewing gum for new Gumnetic Bins. It won the British Councils National Design Award for 2007 and was designed by Anna Bullus. I read about the product on Materia, the website for innovation and materials, and think it's a fresh approach to reuse materials and at the same time provides us with some hope that people won't throw their gum om the streets.
