Futuroloog Patrick Dixon over divergeren en convergeren en de toekomst
The famous and inspiring futurist Patrick Dixon speaks passionately about the future and trends. Where it is all about in the future is simplicity. We see more functionality in devices, more services but what the consumer really wants is simplicity and ease of use. We may not loose ourselves in all what is possible with technology. And I think Patrick is right in that. It is all about usage and human understanding of technology.
Still there are some aspects where I can't really agree with Patrick Dixon. Technological progress is going fast but Patrick tells also about barriers in technology. I really do not want to, when I think about the future, talk about things which are impossible. Like when Patrick talks about speechtechnology in the first movie. When you think about the future never say never. But of course Patrick is very inspiring so here are some of his vision statements:
- all true innovations will be about divergence
- Convergence only wins for the consumer when it makes live simpler but often it makes live more complicated
- The future will be about many many more products
- More and more we become technology mad and lose sight of what the consumer really wants
- All innovation is divergent - doing things different and better. But most companies focus on convergence on price, quality, features
- If we can make 100 dollar computers we can totally reinvent the total telecom industry (second movie)
- RFID technology will be used in billions of things in our world
