De 8 technologieen die onze wereld gaan redden!
The trend Go Green continues and according to Al Gore we are heavily focusing on environment and global warming. And I think it is an important trend. And technology will help us solve the big problems that nature and environment face. But do not put all your trust in technology. It starts by changing your behaviour towards the environment. Business Magazine 2.0. speaks about 8 technologies which will help us save the world.
- Hydrogen Fueling Station at home: Solar-powered hydrogen fueling station in your garage. Australian scientists developed such a prototype. The first version is expected to produce enough hydrogen to give your runabout a range of 100 miles. This without emitting planet-warming greenhouse gas. (See the full story.)
- Environmental Sensor Networks: A networked environment with tiny small sensors on lake beds, ocean floors, in the ground, and even floating in the sky. Sensors which are sniffing the air, water, and soil for pollutants and detecting changes in environment. So real-time data on a variety of phenomena. A Virginia tech company Ensco developed a gadget that gets its juice from thin-film solar panels and would measure weather patterns.(See the full story.)
- Toxin-Eating Trees It's called phytoremediation and it is a technology that uses vegetation to absorb hazardous waste. The technique is not new. But now there's a new development to make toxic dumping grounds green in multiple ways. British researchers hope to genetically engineer an enzyme to boost the tree's ability to suck up toxic waste. (See the full story.)
- Nuclear Waste Neutralizer: The biggest problem is: What to do with the tons of radioactive waste? recycling leaves the unfortunate by-product plutonium. But the technology Urex allows four times as much waste to be packed into nuclear burial grounds. (See the full story.)
- Autonomous Ocean Robots: The world's seas are the places where lots of environmental trouble is; climate change, vanishing fish, coral bleaching. To monitor the seas there is the Starbug. Under development in Australia, a 4-foot-long robot which operates autonomously and is highly maneuverable. Starbug will for example monitor water quality, map fish habitats. (See the full story.)
- Sonic Water Purifier: Beam ultrasound waves into polluted water, blowing up the cellular walls and carbon bonds of contaminants...result is cool drinkable water. Portable sonolysis machines could be deployed to far away located villages in for example developing countries. In other areas, sonolysis could treat water tainted with industrial pollution. Cool idea!(See the full story.)
7.Endangered-Species Tracker: Use Web 2.0 to safe the endangered species and clone them! Conservationists look for ways to tag and gps endangered animals . Together with web 2.0 mash-ups techniques they will get better info about the habitats and habits of the animals. With the info they can also get better information for cloning. (See the full story.)
- The Interactive, Renewable Smart Power Grid: California utility Pacific Gas & Electric is developing an electricity grid that will look more like the Internet. The grid is distributed, interactive, open-source - instead of the old fashioned one-way network of today. Several technologies are used to generated the power like solar power stations; solar buildings with solar cells integrated into rooftops, walls and windows; wave power; car power etc. (See the full story.)
That these eight technologies are very important seems obvious to me. If you don't think so just watch the movie 'An Inconvenient Truth'.
