Communicatie bureau LEWIS publiceert onderzoek naar corporate blogs
This post's not about the future but about the present...:-) The Eindhoven based PR-company LEWIS publiced the results of their surveys on corporate blogging today. Main conclusion is that, except from US companies, blogs are not used by organizations. Most organizations don't see the added value of blogs. Allthough blogging can really have possitive influence on processes and people within the organization (if you ask me). Just think of some well-known and succesfull blogs like the one of Hans van Mestrum (Hans on Experience) of Tulip Computers. I also want to mention the blog of PGGM about innovation. Very interesting to find such a blog under the flag of PGGM. Good initiative guys!
It maybe interesting when you read the whitepaper of LEWIS to also read a paper from 2005 (Backbone Corporate blogging is it worth the hype). Just to (hopefully) reckon there's some development  :-)
What I also want to mention are the results from a British survey in 2007 (by Ken State University) among over 800 PR professionals. Honoustly the results represent a staggering sign that even in 2007 blogging has not yet reached the ones within organizations who should be doing something with it. For example the survey concludes that 72% of the PR-professionals do not have/use a formal system to monitor the blogosphere, only 19% do.
- Just 18,5% say to use blogs to communicate with important stakeholders.
- For these 18,5%: 78,3% do this to communicate with customers; 42,8% to reach news media and 39,8% to communicate with employees.
- From the organizations which use blogs within their PR-strategy 63,2% use it to improve branding ; 57,1% to improve the dialogue with their stakeholders and 46% to improve the mutual trust between stakeholders and organization.
- 16,5% off the respondents know blogs for employees but nobody follows (reads) the blogs.
- 10,7% of the respondents have an official policy around employees who blog. Curious to know what that policy comprises.
