Augmented reality into Google earth
Some people see augmented reality as the hype of 2009 and some see it as a technology which will have big impact on how we communicate. I still believe that augmented reality will become a big hit for the upcoming years.
So I believe it will not be a hype. For now there are already many examples of the first applications of augmented reality. A recent one is the one from ARSights.
ARSights introduced and augmented reality application for Google Earth. Via Google Earth and the plug-in (which is downloadable from the ARSighs website) everyone is able to see special landmarks from Google earth in 3d on their desks. For this you need the plug-in, a webcam and you have to print the codes which the plug-in provides you. Just have a look at the clip which shows how it works.
Also great is Kweekies (see clip). This is an augmented reality game for kids! Kweekies is even nominated for the International Mobile Gaming Awards (IMGA) in the newest category named Real World Games.
