Architecture and augmented reality
The Netherlands is to be the first country with nationwide availability of architectural facts.
One of my favourite destinations in Rotterdam is the Netherlands Architecture Institute (NAi). This instituation has a new, bold ambition: to make the Netherlands the first country in the world where all architecture is available through augmented reality.
Rotterdam is the first city, all architectural facts on this city should be available through a downloadable, mobile application in February. What's the idea? You point your phone somewhere in public space and your phone displays the architectural facts for this location.
The movieclip shows how a person points to a space that is currently empty and you can see how the application projects an impression of the Market Hall that is to be built on this spot. In the future, you can also see what was previously built on locations and plans for the future. How cool is that?
In five years time, all architecture in the Netherlands is expected to be available. Plan you architecture trip now!
