4D Printing: things making things

4D Printing: things making things

Finally we are getting used to 3d printing when it becomes old school? Well maybe because scientists are already looking at 4d printing. Objects which are able to adjust themselves.

The 3d printer is becoming more popular but still it’s only the innovators who can say they own one. Science is on the other hand already a step ahead and is working on 4d printers. Yep, sorry for that but we can no longer talk about 3d printing when 4d is now in the science labs.

4d printing has nothing to do with a fourth dimension. The big difference between 3d and 4d is that a 4d printer produces products which are able to adjust themselves according to their surroundings. So the difference is after the product is printed. For example, when a product is printed and when it comes in contact with for example water is reshapes itself. The products will be able to reshape themselves in a precoded shape. The video shows how this looks like.

Of course we have a long, long, long way to go before 4d printing is what I want it to be. Intelligent reshaping and flexibel products. Maybe you can print a cube and when in contact with water it can change itself into a house. Remember: you have to be able to dream to look into the future.
